A Guide to Shower Filters For Hard Water

A Guide to Shower Filters For Hard Water

Water Filter

You may want shower filters for hard water, but you also want to remove hazardous chemicals that vaporize during a hot bath. In the enclosed area of the bathroom, we inhale these chemicals and scientists believe that increases our risk of cancer.

You also want to remove chlorine, if it's present. Chlorine also vaporizes and inhalation is irritating to the sinuses, as well as the entire respiratory system. The chemical vapors are known to trigger asthma attacks. That's one reason that indoor swimming pools are closed if chlorine levels climb too high.

The best shower filters for hard water combine ion exchange to balance mineral content and soften. This step also removes traces of metals like lead and copper that seep in from the pipes. Metallic traces dull the hair and exposure to lead is never safe.

Granulated carbon will remove chlorine and some of the other chemicals, but a process called adsorption is needed to remove as many chemicals as possible. Specifically, it removes chlorination byproducts. Those are the ones that cause cancer.

The prices of shower filters for hard water vary greatly. Believe me. You don't need the most expensive product on the market to get the best performance.

Some people recommend reverse osmosis. That's an expensive and largely unnecessary step, even for drinking water filtration. It also creates gallons of wastewater and there are no units specifically designed for your showerhead. You'd have to get one for the whole house.

Whole house filters are sometimes a good idea, but generally speaking, your showerheads and your kitchen faucets are most important. There's no particular reason to filter the waters for the toilet or even the laundry. You can always add water softeners to the laundry.

Some people recommend a brand called Wellness. There's no real reason to go to that expense, either. They make some scientific claims that they can't back up with hard evidence. There biggest claim to fame is that they are supposedly used in the number one health spa in the world, but I couldn't verify that, either.

The best shower filters for hard water have been evaluated and rated by Consumer Reports. The company provides certified product performance data before you buy. The cost of use is pennies a day and the replacement filter lasts a full six months.

In case you have a hard time remembering when it's time to change your filter, the company offers automatic shipment and discounts for signing up. There are many ways to save money. Buying direct from the factory is one easy way.

You want a product that is easy to install and unlikely to leak, simply to avoid frustration. If you're tall, you also want one that does not reduce the height of the showerhead.

The right shower filters for hard water will protect your health, as well as prevent that scaly build up on your bathroom fixtures. Just be sure to shop carefully, so that you don't end up disappointed.

LG Refrigerator Water Filters - A Practical Mini Guide

LG Refrigerator Water Filters - A Practical Mini Guide

Water Filter

There are now many different LG refrigerator water filters in the market that could ensure the provision of safe cold drinking water for your family. Because of this, you won't have any difficulty in finding water filters or replacement cartridges that could fit the model of LG refrigerator that you have in your home.

As these water filters are guaranteed to enhance the odor and taste of the water coming out of your refrigerator's water dispenser, you are sure that they are able to get rid of water contaminants as well. In fact, water filters for LG refrigerators are proven to eliminate impurities such as heavy metals like lead and mercury from water by 99.31 and 96.7 percent, respectively.

As much as 99.09 percent of lindane, 95.9 of atrazine, 99.99 percent of cysts, 96.3 percent of benzene and 99.9 percent of class I particulates are also removed through these water filters. Of course, turbidity is also lessened by 99.3 percent and 97.6 percent of odors and tastes from chlorine are also eliminated. However, even with if your water goes through this rigorous filtration process, the natural minerals present in it like fluoride will not be removed, thus retaining the healthy elements you can get from it.

Which LG Refrigerator Water Filter To Choose

Not all refrigerator water filters fit all types of LG refrigerators. There are particular kinds of water filters that would fit certain model types. An example of this is the LG LT600P water filter that could purify 300 gallons of water. This type of filter could fit most bottom-freezer and side-by-side refrigerators by LG.

Known as the premium ice and water filter, this filter model is also touted as the newest available filter for LG. Aside from LG models, this type of filter can also fit all of the 795 series of the Kenmore refrigerators including the Trio models with French or three doors that features a water dispenser on the units' inside wall.

Replacing The Filter for LG Refrigerators

Although most of the LG refrigerator water filters are recommended to be replaced after every six months of usage, there are also times when replacement depends on several other factors. One of these factors is the consumption of cold water in your household everyday. If your family consumes a lot of drinking water everyday, then it is expected that the wear and tear of your water filter would be more than if lesser water is consumed.

The quality of the water that you use in your refrigerator's water dispenser is also a deciding factor when it comes to the date of your filter replacement. If you are using water that has not been treated before it is placed into the dispenser, then there is a greater chance for you to replace your filters in less than six months. This is because the performance of your water filter might be optimized at an earlier date because of the amount of filtration that it has to do on your water.

If you notice an unpleasant odor or taste on the water that comes from your refrigerator's water dispenser, then the chances that you need to replace the filter immediately. So, you have to always be on the lookout for this to make sure that you are providing clean and safe cold water for your family at all times.

Remember that installing LG refrigerator water filters is not enough in ensuring the provision of healthy and clean water for your entire household. There are also certain responsibilities that come with this, which you should not forget. The most important of these are like looking into the performance of your filter and into the odors and tastes that your water is already emitting.

What Is a Whole House Water Filter?

What Is a Whole House Water Filter?

Water Filter

Water, water everywhere and not a drop to drink. The Rime of the Ancient Mariner may not be about the problems with our drinking water supplies but it does seem apt. It may be time to consider an investment in a whole house water filter system.

Recent years have seen growing concerns in the drinking water industry. It seems that there are more contaminants in out drinking water then ever before. Or if not more contaminates more information about them anyway. We now know on any given day the water from our household taps could contain things like pesticides, industrial chemicals, prescription drugs and the list continues to grow.

If the contaminants that leach into the system do not scare you perhaps some of the chemicals that are purposely added should. The government adds chlorine and fluorine to our water for us. I am not saying what is added is bad, it is needed, chlorine does stop the spread of such wonderful diseases as typhoid fever but I do not want to drink it. Do you? Fluorine was the government's way of helping us because someone somewhere said it would help reduce cavities.

Because chlorine eliminates diseases we really can not do without it in our water supplies at the moment but chlorine causes so many health problems that a whole house water filter system is really the only defense. Chlorine causes brittle hair, repertory issues, acne, as well as other harder to define feelings of yuk. Seems the thinking here is better a few nagging symptoms for some folks then a lot of dead from rampant disease.

The only real solution to the problem is a whole house water filter system. What's that? Drink bottled water! No, that is not going to work for a couple of reasons; just to start with most of the problems with chlorine is not from drinking. It seems the hot water we use for showers and dishes turns the chlorine into a gas we can breathe in. For those with breathing troubles like asthma that is a bad thing. Actually most of the problems with chlorine are skin related so just switching to bottled drinking water will not help.

Bottled water may help some with the other contaminants like pesticides but will it really? You see most bottled water is just filter tap water. Ahh but drinking bottled water as opposed to a whole house filter system has another issue most folks choose not to think about.

The billions of bottled water we drink every day are actually destroying our world. Well not single handedly but they are a big big problem. You see here in America we consume about 3 billion bottles of bottled water a day, those plastic bottle the stuff comes in can not be reused due to the chemicals inside of the bottles that make them soft, so off they go to the landfill. Recycle? Not usually! Out of all the bottles that make it to the landfill only about 5% are actually recycled the rest just hang out and clog up the world for a couple of hundred years, unless they get melted down in which case they clog up our air and yeas our water too.

The only 100% safe cost effective solution is to invest in a whole house water filter system for your family. A whole house water filter system will not only get the chlorine, fluorine and other contaminants out but if you use a refillable bottle for water and bring it from home it will soon pay for itself in savings.

If you can't live without your existing showerhead and want the great benefits of the Vitamin C filter, this is for you. Vitamin C dechlorination has a lengthy history. It has been used in EPA and APHA methods for the dechlorination. Sonaki's Shower Filter releases the exact amount of vitamin to neutralize all chlorine or chloramines as the water passes through the shower filter.
